Can’t wait to build a great community in Auen this year. I also enjoy playing intramural dodgeball, watching baseball (Go Dodgers!), playing video games (most are made by a small indie company called Riot), and eating most of my meals at Collins. When I’m not grinding on schoolwork, I love to play pickleball, swim, and work out.

“Perhaps racism and sexism played a role for some voters,” our professor responded. In my public policy class’s election debrief that evening, our professor asked why we thought Trump won. In fact, the post was meant to do the opposite, reminding us to love our neighbors, even when we disagree with them. One Instagram follower responded, “Is this a joke? I also reposted something last Wednesday, “No matter who is president, Jesus is King.” 25 of my peers had unfollowed me by the next day. At CMC, I have felt empowered to embrace controversial opinions.

What You Need to Know About the Soon-to-be-Launched Data Science Major

I am a psychology major with a sequence in gender and sexuality studies! Discussing global migration and other issues, Professor Jean-Pierre Murray, who focuses on global governance and international law, warned of a decline in multilateralism and the “liberal international world order” as a result of Trump’s rise. As students at an institution whose mission is to prepare us for thoughtful and productive lives, we have an obligation to be better than the hateful and divisive rhetoric consuming our civic discourse. After class, I asked those same classmates to talk. They seemed to think that whoever was daring enough to challenge their opinions only disagreed because they were racist and misogynistic, too. These classmates halted our productive discussion, made the class feel uncomfortable, and made me feel alienated.

I love being active on campus and building relationships with my peers by learning about their culture, interests, and experiences! I’m excited to help make our dorm feel like home and am pumped to be working with Kate (my co-RA) to plan some awesome events. If I am not in Crown, you’ll see me at Ath tea with a chocolate strawberry, at the library, or collecting sloth and cat paraphernalia for my dorm! At CMC, I am majoring in PPE-Gov, and I have an intermittent sequence in imposter syndrome.

It’s impressive when first-year students step out of their comfort zones, especially by doing things such as running for class president! I’m an economics-accounting major, but in my free time, I love spending time outdoors, reading books, and playing or watching various sports. Addressing that sentiment—in a moment of rare optimism for the night—Professor Taw encouraged students to still pursue such work in the short term and urged them to learn how the system works so they can effect meaningful change later in their careers. During the Q&A portion of the discussion, students conveyed a general sense of unease regarding how cmc markets review a second Trump presidency will impact America’s standing in the world—from its credibility amongst allies to its posture toward international law and human rights.

I’m currently a Psychology major planning to become a future dentist, and I’m so excited to be an RA for Benson! On campus, I am a team lead for SOURCE Nonprofit Consulting, a mentor for Smart Women Securities, and an active member of CMC’s Black Student Association and Black Women’s Collective. On campus, I have been a FYG, an RA for the Lowe Institute, and have taught boxing at Roberts Pavilion. I am an International Relations major and I recently studied abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark. Class of 2024: First-Year Class President Candidate Statements

She argued that this approach is not new, but has been part of the politics of American foreign policy at various times in U.S. history. Members of CMC’s International Relations (IR) faculty delivered brief remarks on various policies and approaches that President-elect Donald Trump will pursue on the international stage once he takes office. Following the 2024 election, Claremont McKenna College’s Keck Center for International and Strategic Studies hosted a discussion exploring the impact that a second Trump presidency will have on U.S. foreign relations.

I try to embody hacker culture in everything that I do by finding really creative ways to accomplish different objectives and iterating until the objective is accomplished. It’s nerve-racking being a freshman, especially in this pandemic. Thank you all, congratulations, and God bless you all. Your education has led you out, graduation is just a step, and this commencement is just the beginning. Today’s ceremony inaugurates rather than culminates your intellectual journey, and Claremont is a mere Route-66 pit stop on your path towards truth. As you walk the stage, remember that you join in a tradition that spans nine decades here at CMC and ten centuries around the world. You’re imperfect, and you always will be, on this side of paradise.

U.S. Foreign Policy Outlook After the 2024 Election

Kristol, the son of famed conservative intellectual Irving Kristol, was born and raised in New York City. In an interview with The Forum on October 9th, Bill Kristol told Dhriti Jagadish and Shiv Parihar that he would vote for Zohran Mamdani if he were a resident of New York City. Even though we’re only one month into our virtual first semester, this class already means a lot to me. If there’s a class-wide event you want to see happen, I’ll make sure it happens.

Graduates, the world you enter is a wonderful place, but it has its dangers. But without the strange correspondence between our minds and reality, none of this research would be possible. Just think for a second about how miraculous that is. We’re not just stuck wallowing in ignorance. We’re also filled with what ancient traditions call “the breath of life,” which is prana in Sanskrit, ruach in Hebrew, and psyche in Greek. But it’s a poignant reminder that we’re material creatures—for dust we are, and to dust we shall return.

I am excited to meet and talk with everyone more! I’m beyond excited to help build a community at Apartments that is friendly, inclusive, supportive and fun, and have a great year together! Let’s yap anytime, anywhere, about whatever you want.

In my free time, I like dancing and scrapbooking, and my favorite place to study on campus is Heggblade (shoutout amazing DOS staff!). I was a FYG my sophomore year, which encouraged me to apply to be an RA, so I could continue building community and being a mentor on campus. I am dual majoring in Economics and Mathematics with a Data Science sequence and am also involved with Graphite Group and the Claremont Accounting Association. In my free time, I love listening to music, watching slime videos on Instagram, or taking ill-timed 0.5x photos of my best buds.

Around campus I am a member of the leadership board for the Sexuality and Gender Alliance at CMC and I play on the Women’s Rugby Team! I’m always around campus whether it be studying, chilling at the hub or hanging out and sunbathing with my friends! Koch observed that Trump’s actions do not always align with promises made on the campaign trail. Moreover, many of the professors responded to student questions about whether Trump can or wants to achieve all of his stated goals. Finally, the Director of the Keck Center and an expert on Russia politics, Hilary Appel, Podlich Family Professor of Government and George R. Roberts Fellow, outlined Trump’s stated approach to dealing with the war in Ukraine, which she characterized as more dovish toward Russia than the Biden administration.

Later in the discussion, another classmate specifically accused me of condoning racism and misogyny because I went to an election watch party for Republican interns. When it was their turn to talk, they insisted that Trump won because his supporters were determined to amplify racism and misogyny. As the class gave their answers – economic malaise, Harris’s lack of time, Biden’s unpopularity – I noticed a group of classmates making incredulous, repulsed facial expressions whenever someone answered.
